A little princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is one of my favorite classic stories. It follows a young girl who lives a life full of luxuries yet remains modest and humble. When she travels from India to a private boarding school in England (owned by Miss Minchin) she is welcomed as the little princess because of her optimism, impeccable manners, and talent in telling stories. However, before long, her riches turn to rags when her kind, loving father loses all his money to investments in diamond mines and sadly dies. Now, Sara, the young girl is forced to learn to survive as a servant. The harsh reality she is having to witness should not be in anyone’s destiny, let alone a young, innocent child. But little did she know that the much sought-after truth was near reached. In fact, just outside her doorstep. Literally.
I have read and reread this book many times but it still never fails to awaken my feeling of sympathy. I am totally inspired by Sara’s wisdom and capability to stay calm in even the most terrible of situations. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone aged 7-11 who loves a realistic read with a touching happy ending.
